‘Never Liked It Anyway’, the Go-to Place After Breaking up

Meknes - Never Liked It Anyway is a website that was created in 2011 by 28 year-old entrepreneur Annabel Acton to help the brokenhearted sell objects they received from their exes, which still remind them of their past relationships. The objects being sold can be anything: a ring, party tickets, wedding dresses, and even boxes of chocolate.

According to wearenytech.comActon worked as a brand consultant in Sydney, London, and New York for six years before starting to work as an innovation consultant in 2011. She knew very little about the Internet until deciding to launch Never Liked It Anyway, the marketplace to sell all the stuff you're left with when a relationship ends.

Annabel Acton launched Never Liked It Anyway after she broke up with her boyfriend who left her with two plane tickets and other objects that she no longer wanted to use or see. She came up with the idea for a website to get rid of them and make money from them at same time, before the idea inspired many other brokenhearted people around the US, who then put everything that remained after their split on sale.

"Starting the site was an opportunity to come in with a voice that was a bit cheeky and irreverent and kind of fun," Acton told Huffington Post Divorce. "It just kind of reminds everyone that this does happen to everyone, because when you do break up, you kind of feel like you're the only one in the world who's gone through it."

Besides allowing people to put their exes’ objects on sale, the website offers them the chance to talk about their relationships, give advice to people, and get in touch with people who are in the same situation.

"The community is really lovely. If someone is interested in buying your item, there's usually some kind of email exchange: 'I'm interested in buying your item, but I just want to tell you I'm so sorry -- I read your story and I've been there,'" she said. "I was really worried that people were going to use the site for naming and shaming, but people have really gotten the intent of it."

The Beauty of Ugliness: “Don’t Judge Me Challenge”

The Beauty of Ugliness- Don’t Judge Me Challenge

Meknes - Several teenagers started the “Don’t Judge Me Challenge,” posting ugly pictures of themselves which then transform into pictures of themselves as “beautiful.” Does this challenge really discourage "body-shaming," or is it just a simple excuse to post a selfie?

The challenge was intended to lead the world toward rethinking beauty and ugliness. Certainly, beauty (and hence ugliness) is not scientifically measurable, nor are these concepts absolutes. Everyone does not necessarily share the same tastes or follow the same trends. However, in this new challenge, teenagers have created a whole package of elements that define the beauty/ugliness stereotypes. There is now a new definition of ugliness; being ugly is having a unibrow, blackened and crooked teeth, crudely drawnred lips, and false acne.

Could beauty then mean the absence of these elements? Not in all cases. Philosophically, beauty means harmony in relation to “generally accepted social norms” or references. "If beauty remains “beautiful,” ugliness can sometimes be a charm. In his new book, "Ugly: The Aesthetics of Everything,” Stephen Bayley argues that ugliness is far more interesting than beauty.

This “Don’t Judge Me Challenge” focuses on the "me,”on one’s ego. Although it purports toleranceby saying someone can be beautiful even with his or her ugly side, it nevertheless causes us to return to a very Manichean vision. This paradox can program our brains through a labeling machine with dualities: beauty and ugliness, good and evil, white and black, right and wrong, happy and sad, and so on.

This challenge is said to have a purpose, unlike the #CharlieCharlieChallenge. Although its initial objective as told by YouTubers is to preach tolerance, the origin of this phenomenon remains unclear. However, the videos proliferated (See the hashtag #DontJudgeChallange with an “a”) when the blogger Em Ford posted a video of herself trying to remove her makeup, revealing her acne. North African YouTube and Instagram users have also participated inthis challenge. Morocco and Algeria were represented by several videos with thousands of views,in comparison with Tunisia which was representedon YouTube by a single person. Acrossthe world, the keyword #DontJudgeChallange(sic)has already been used more than 234,000 times on Instagram and more than 2 million times on Twitter in seven days, according to the Topsy analysis website.

Beyond the “Don’t Judge Challenge”

This new phenomenon deserves further study. Some observations are worth a closer look. For example, girls are more involved with this challenge than boys. Those who consider themselves the least attractive make themselves as uglyas possible to reduce the "paradox distance" and make it more shocking. The fake duck face is used frequently. Girls who are not famous never show their real face without makeup. The choice of music is not necessarily random. The use of products in these videos may be a matter of advertising. Many teens say clearly that they make these videos or watch them for fun.

Not only was this phenomenoncriticized because it led to death or facial disfiguration (the case of Shawn Jackson, 22, of Miami who died from severe self-inflicted injuries), but also because it offended many people who are sick ofhaving a unibrow. While some consider that the cult of appearance, although deceptive, is more apparent in these videos, others consider them to be self-parody or, perhaps, simply hypocrisy.

Thisonline trend then has not made everyone laugh. To counter it, the #BeautyInAllChallenge was created to show one’s body parts thatare most criticized by others. In this sense, YouTube star Miranda Sings posted a video keeping the same face with a big red mouth. Others made their videos, but with a different purpose. Oneyoung girl, Jamie-Lee Girvan, without naming her illness, posted picturesshowing herselfwith makeup and carefully styled hair and thenwithout makeup or wig.According to the Huffington Post, this girl accompanied her video (which has 6,000,000 visits and 150,000 shares) witha message to those who enjoyed it. "To every **** and **** who uses eyeliner to make a unibrow to get ugly. Remove your makeup ... As you're ugly with makeup. You should remove all these things and stop judging us because we were born to be different. So be yourself and stay happy."

Some young people participated in the “Don’t Judge Me Challenge;” others judged the “Don’t Judge.”But, finally, what will be the next challenge for young people in this new world of social media?

Ashley Madison

Rabat - A large caches of data stolen from the marital cheating website AshleyMadison.com revealed that Moroccans are the Arab world’s biggest users of the site, after Saudis.

On Wednesday, an individual or group claims to have completely compromised the company’s user databases, financial records, and other private records, posting sensitive customer information.

A report by Al Arabiya said that among Arab countries, over 1,000 users registered with the site used Moroccan email addresses, which end in the .ma suffix.

Saudis topped the list of users from Arab countries, with over 1, 230 users, followed by Moroccans.

The third largest group of users was from Bahrain (730), followed by Jordan, (685) while Lebanon, ranked fifth with over 359 users.

Iraqis seemed to be the least interested in pursuing an extramarital affair, with only 33 addresses registered.

Still, one analysis of email addresses found in the data dump also shows that some 15,000 are .mil. or .gov addresses.

The leaked data contains files that appear to include account details and log-in information for some 32 million users of the adult social networking site, touted as the premier site for married individuals seeking partners for affairs.

Noel Biderman, the Chief Executive of Avid Life Media (ALM), the Toronto-based firm that owns Ashley Madison, confirmed the hack.

He said the company was “working diligently and feverishly” to take down ALM’s intellectual property.

“Ashley Madison is the most famous name in infidelity and married dating,” the site asserts on its homepage.

“Have an affair today on Ashley Madison. Thousands of cheating wives and cheating husbands signup everyday looking for an affair…. With our affair guarantee package we guarantee you will find the perfect affair partner.”

Moroccan Hammam Among SevenPlaces Qataris Go to Relax

Rabat - Emirati magazine Step Feed has ranked one of Morocco’s Hammams among the seven places in the world where Qatari nationals go to relax.

Step Feed ranked Morocco’s Hammam of Bab Doukkala, located in Marrakesh, sixth on the list of seven places where Qatari nationals go to relax, right between New Zealand‘s Hells Gate, which ranked last, and Malaysia ‘s Petronas Twin Towers, which ranked in fifth position.

“When in Morocco, do asthe Moroccans do! This 17th century Moroccan bath-- or hammam --is the perfect place to go to mingle with locals and get a soothing massage,” explained the Emirati magazine.

Bab Doukkala is a historic hammam, situated at the grand Bab Doukkala gate of the Medina, in the southeast corner of Bab Doukkala Mosque, dating from the 17th century. The hammam is located near the mosque, since hammams traditionally share a water source with ablution fountains.

The Hammam of Bab Doukkala, like all Moroccan traditional Hammams, has three main rooms: one cool, one hot, and one – the steam room – very hot.

A Moroccan hammam is very similar to traditional Roman baths, complete with heat and steam, cold water, and an attendant to scrub your skin until it is as soft as a baby’s bottom.

The baths are separated by gender, so men and women are welcome either in separate buildings or during different times of the day. In the Hammam of Bab Doukkala, women’s hours are from noon till about 7pm; men’s are early morning and later in the evening.

Made in Morocco T-shirts Cause Controversy in France

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen

Taroudant - T-shirts made in Morocco were distributed by French far-right party National Front have created controversy in social media in France.

Being a fervent defender of goods made in France, the party came under a wave of criticism for importing t-shirts from Morocco.

The sale of goods manufactured abroad does not fit with the official view of the party of Marine Le Pen.

Sylvain Chazot, a political reporter for Europe 1, posted on Twitter a photo with statement that reads the T-shirts sold at the party’s Summer University are labeled “Made in Morocco”.

David Perrotin, a society journalist for BuzzFeed France, also posted another photo of a product that is made in China.

When asked by the French press about the t-shirts made in Morocco sold by her party, National Front President Marine Le Pen did not wish to speak, apparently uncomfortable.

“I assure you that the National Front does buy anything made by foreign companies. It exclusively works with French companies employing French employees,” said a party activist.

“I do not understand why we have these T-shirts,” said another activist, interviewed by Le Point. “We take only ‘made in France’ products. If Marine Le Pen saw them, she would immediately remove them," he added.

Other activists said that the only reason t-shirts made in Morocco were sold at the Summer University is the fact that “these t-shirts are cheaper than those made in France.”

Tattoos For Good Cause: Brazilian Artist Covers Scars for Women Victims of Crime

Casablanca - A scar lasts a lifetime and is a constant reminder of what has happened.

For victims of violence or serious illnesses, scars are often an ordeal that they have to relive on a daily basis. Flavia Carvalho, a tattoo artist from Brazil decided to help a client’s disfigured skin (due to gunshot wounds, knife wounds, open fractures and mastecomy-surgery to remove a breast) by covering scars with beautiful tattoo designs.

Without payment, Carvalho stitches the tattoos on female scars as a sign of strength and beauty. Equally important to note, the aim is to give these women a new sense of life without feeling ashamed of their skin and story. By turning their scars into something beautiful, these women can move on and learn to accept themselves for the way they look.

Moreover, in 2012 Flavia Carvalho founded the project 'A Pele Da Flor’ (in English: The Skin of the Flower) in her tattoo studio located in the city of Curitiba in southeastern Brazil. In her studio, Carvalho welcomes every woman that wants to hide a traumatising scar without charge.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, the artist said that "everything started when a woman asked me to cover a large scar on her abdomen with a tattoo. She was stabbed by a man in a nightclub. When the woman saw the finished tattoo, she was so happy ... that has touched me very much.”

From then on, Carvalho’s idea was born. However, the generous tattoo artist never really thought that the national and international feedback would be so great, which she explained in the following way to Huffington Post: "I started the project in order to help women victims of crime. I never thought that this would receive so much media attention…"

Many of the victims were either sexually abused, in an abusive relationship or are cancer survivors. Thus, the tattoo artist used her talent to “erase” the scars of the negative experience by covering them into artworks.

Miss Morocco in 1960's

Taroudant - The appreciation of beauty is something characteristic of every human, but organizing beauty contests officially became part of Moroccan society in the 1960s.

Zamane, a Facebook page of a website dedicated to Moroccan history, posted a photo allegedly of a beauty pageant in 1960.

The photo in black and white features eight beautiful girls lined up for a group photo, probably after crowning the 1960 Miss Morocco.

In the same photo, there is an old Moroccan man wearing traditional jellaba and a turban – probably one of the organizers – standing behind the contestants.

The photo of 1960 Miss Morocco collected more than 1222 likes and 313 shares on Facebook.

The comments vary between those who expressed nostalgic feelings towards “those golden days,” while other comments denounce the Beauty Contest, claiming it was one of “the negative legacies of the colonialists” that had “a bad impact on Moroccan society.”

“Interesting contrast between the candidates with short dresses and the traditional dress of the man in the background,” reads one comment.

“They are those fateful years in which the colonialists were gone, leaving behind them a deviant nation,” reads another comment.

Most of the comments were statements of mockery about the contestants, particularly making fun of the man in the background.

Morocco’s largest city, Casablanca, hosted Miss Bikini contests and other beach parties where men and women pose for photographs in bikinis and swimsuits.

Last January, photos of Miss Casablanca in the 1980’s, which displayed the life style of some Moroccans living in Casablanca at the time, went viral on social media.

Moroccan Model in Headscarf Unveils H&M’s New Collection

Rabat - Morocco’s Maria Idrissi has become H&M’s first Muslim model after she was featured in the Swedish fashion brand’s new fall collection sporting a headscarf.

The Swedish fast-fashion company H&M, which has been ranked the second largest clothing retailer globally for years, after Zara, surprised many when they launched a brand new denim collection featuring a Moroccan woman in a headscarf.

Morocco’s Maria Idrissi took part in the fashion brand’s short film that promotes their effort to recycle old clothes to launch a fresher, reinvented line, which began in 2013.

In the ad campaign video, Idrissi is seen standing in a doorway, in big round movie star shades with wide-legged palazzo pants, a pink overcoat, and a checkered headscarf.

Maria attracted the attention of fashion magazines worldwide. UK’s Glamour Magazine said, “Maria Idrissi is getting a lot of love on social media - and so is H&M for that matter.”

Vaga Bomb reported that the Moroccan model has given Muslim girls in headscarves all over the world a chance to look at themselves in an ad campaign.

Maria Idrissi said in a post on Instagram that she did not expect all this fame. “love to everyone who's supporting hijab becoming more mainstream - both the Muslims and non Muslims,” she wrote.

Multiple media reports suggested that H&M’s conscious step to include such a cultural icon as headscarves aims at addressing Muslim women, and in particular that the admiration for Muslim women’s fashion has been noted by industry experts, who consider it a rapidly growing trend.

A previous report by Thomson Reuters said Muslims spent $266 billion on clothing and footwear in 2013, and will increase spending to $484 billion by 2019.

Moroccan Kaoutar Boudarraja: 'I Am a Rebel, I am a Liberated Woman'

Miami - Moroccan model, actress, presenter and producer Kaoutar Boudarraja (Kao) responds to the harsh criticism she has received due to her “explicit and provocative” photos she posed for the French speaking magazine Illi.

Illi published the behind the scenes video of her photo shoot in which Kao who says, “I am a rebel, I am a liberated woman!” in perfect French. The Moroccan model has ignited her official Facebook Page by writing an extensive status in which she addresses those who are against her life’s choices and have insulted her through social media.

Kao is forceful in condemning her critics, “You who have a serious identity problem, have no right to ask for consideration to the small person that I am. You have nothing to teach me, no value to add  or influence the life that I decided to lead. I do not represent you and I'm so glad, so happy not to need your "blessing" to exist.”

Without any fear or political correctness in her expressions, the Moroccan artist loved and admired by some and hated by others for not “respecting” her conservative Moroccan culture, lashes at her fellow Moroccans who she believes have no right to tell her what she should or not do.

Kao let’s them have a piece of her uncensored mind, “So you believe that you are more patriotic than me, more Moroccan, more Muslim, you who are so disconnected from the real world that you think you have the power of life or death over me ... F**k you! with all my heart, my body and my soul; Front, side and back (ah the back!). F**k you! in jeans, in a skirt, scantily clad ... F**k you all, NAKED! F**k you from where I am laughing in my corner, I laugh at you and at human stupidity, I laugh at what you are and what you will never become!”

Despite the use of her strong language and the way she directed her response at the Moroccan and Muslim community who criticized her, Kao has received many supportive messages encouraging her to “keep going” and applauding her thoughts and decisions.

Marrakech Ranks 6 Among the 18 Best Gastronomic Cities in the World

By Yassine Mouhir

Rabat - The US travel company Thrillist established   a ranking of the 18 best gastronomic cities in the world, in which Marrakech ranked sixth.

Gastronomy is one of the criteria that could tip the balance of travelers and tourists from one destination to another. In which cities do you eat the best? This is the question that the US website Thrillist attempted to answer.
